#155227 - DS12C887 with non mux interface |
The DS12C887 real time clock is designed for a multiplexed address and data bus.
However I have an application using 80c51f020 from Silabs where I do not have a multiplexed AD0 to AD7. This is a control application and as such most of the port pins are used for direct digital I/O functions. I have studied the data sheet of the DS12C887 and the AC electrical characteristics ( in Motorola timing mode ). It looks like I can simply interface the chip with discrete spare port pins to read and write RTC values. AD0 to AD7 will be connected to Port 3 of the MCU. Control pins AS, R/!W, DS, !CS, will be connected to spare port pins in P1 port. Will the idea work ? Thanks Raghu |
