DSP capability may not require a MAC. It may often be enough with a reasonably fast multiply instruction of suitable width.
The domain possible to handle with standard microcontrollers are constantly increasing with single-cycle processors and higher-and-higher clock speeds. Many books are very good at both theory and algorithms, but bases there hw recommendations on 10 year old hardware. |
