on your suggestion i tried the lcd with pull up resistors (10k array )

now the LCD is working on P0 but continues to give the same garbled display on P1 and P2

although this effectively solves my prob of freeing up P3 for interrupts . still want to know why the device did not work on the other ports ... will continue my quest .. will keep you all posted on the developments .

if any of you all think i should try some thing out please do tell me .

on a lighter note .( i know this is off topic )
