The real hardware has the RXD line connected to a transistor which seems to work fine.....
Nah just kidding, it is correctly connected to a lovely MAX3232ECAE (a 3v3 MAX232) so the input would be held in the correct state, by this device. So since it is happening on the real hardware and the emulator, and RI is getting set immediately after EA is enabled, I don't think that this is the input flickering all over the place, (RI would be set more randomly?)
