I'd recommend to spend the $20 on a P89V51RD2 or AT89C51RD2/ED2, and build/buy a small board with a max-232 and a 7805 voltage regulator and a crystal and a reset.
I second the motion of not going Atmel and add that if you switch to a SILabs (devboard) (preferably f0x-f2x) you get real time debugging (just like an ICE) included at no added cost. In my opinion there is nothing better for a newbie than the ability to "look under the hood" that ICE functionality gives. Erik |
