Thanks you all of the wealth of info on tilt sensors. I'm going to experiment making my own based on some of the ideas above and see how that goes. I dont need much precision so a home-made sensor might work good.

I got another question. I've been looking online for a way to tell direction without much success. Is there an IC or something that returns the direction? such as north south east west, or perhaps degrees from north or something?
Possibly a home-made way to do this?
I've seen this used in many places but I'm not familiar with any specific device that does it.

Again, any info is trully appreciated.
