#23988 - RE: 8051 vs microchip pic
Dear,

when a small company likes to develop different projects for different customers, they better stick to one controller. A small company cannot switch fast enough from one architecture to an other without any mayor OVERHEAD cost.

most of these company's do have one or two firmware writers inhouse.

Therefor it's wisely to stick to one architecture and enforce this 100% to the max.

LIB's are costly and should be written with open mind for all purposes.

When selecting a device, you should look at the entire family that comes with it. Freeware compilers and tools are nice, but they may not be a primary concern.

Select a WIDERANGE family of controllers, then select a compiler that goes with it(asm,c or mixed) and start building your LIB's. This will save you big money.

Best Regards.
