I'm not sure which version of Visio I tried, but I personally didn't like it. I didn't find it intuitive and it seemed like it often did its own thing rather than what I wanted it to do. I'm not sure if that was pre- or post- Microsoft.

That said, I don't have a better alternative either. It's amazing in this day and age there are certain tools that already exist but there is plenty of opportunity for a competitor to do it better. A good example is QuickBooks. So many small companies use it (including mine), yet it is a piece of junk. On more than one occasion I've been tempted to write the competition. :)
