You missed my point; viz, that the voltage is low in a LDO - thus power dissipation is low.

The voltage in question here is the differential (or "dropout") across the regulator. I had assumed that Mahmood would only be using a LDO regulator in a low-dropout application - it appears that I was probably mistaken there!
