You show +12 volts coming in to 7812. And then 12 volts coming out of it AFTER a diode. I wonder how this works? Does it have something to do with the 1K resistor in the reverence leg of the 7812?

Even if your circuit works, the +12 volt input to a 7805 is only suitable if the load on the 7805 is less than about 75-> 90 ma presuming the 7805 is mounted on some type of heat sink.
