Hi members,

I have a requirement for a table top instrument in which the client would like to save different pump configurations ( for testing ) with a descriptive name and recall it as desired.

This has resulted in a alphanumeric keypad to be there. However space is at a premium and I propose to design it as part of the front facia of the instrument - about 400x125mm available totally.

So the keypad will have 0-9,A-Z,INC,DEC,ENT,and SHFT keys - in all 40.

In the matrix mode I think I will need a minimum of 14 port pins for scanning. The question is : Is there any other means of handling this more elegantly ? Open to ideas with dedicated chips also as the project is in design stage.
