a good question.

It seems most employer want, you should "lie the blue down from the sky" (free translated German saying).

So I think your embedded C++ skills are not important. You must found a way to be likeable.

In my opinion some knowledge about the employers home processor (Motorola, NEC, 8051, PIC, ...) are more important.
E.g. features, architecture, performance,...
At the best, be familiar with some pitfalls and the corresponding work arounds.
