#4968 - RE: Appreciate the tips...but... |
Mike, what processors do they work with? I assume it's not 8051 since I've never seen C++ for the 8051, and 'C' for the 8051 is virtually identical to standard 'C'. Anyone capable of writing a standard 'C' program is going to have no serious problems writing a 'C' program for an 8051 MCU. I would suspect that's the case for other non-8051 microcontrollers as well.
I find it extremely strange that knowledge of the processor is not important to them. If you lack experience in other areas that are important to them, perhaps they are disqualifiying you without even talking about the importance of knowledge of the processor. My knowledge of the MCU in question is what has gotten me jobs, and my experience has been that that has been more important to those that contract me than anything else. In some cases I've had no experience whatsoever in doing the type of development they are looking for, but my knowledge of the MCU and programming experience is sufficient to convince them that I can get the job done. BTW--I've never used (nor been asked) to do any embedded development in C++ or in any object-oriented language. Just 'C' and assembly language. Good luck, Craig Steiner |
