#49770 - RE: Basic is for kids? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
"basic language is only for kids"
Please don't say this! Why do people critizise all the time easy and simple tools? What's bad, when a tool is so easy, that even kids can use it? That's not bad, that's really brillant! Some may have said so, my 'resistance' to BASIC is not in any way related to the above. 98.32% of my work is throughput related and if anyone suggest using BASIC for such they are not the sharpest tool in the shed. If anyone want to make a BASIC program that function at 'human speed' (e.g. is operating with keyboard and printer only) go ahead since any processor can easily keep up. However, when someone tries to control a machine in real time using BASIC, the small hairs on the back of my neck stand straight out. There has been posts here basically asking 'why does my real time application in BASIC not work?' and that can only be answered 'because you are using BASIC'. Every programming language has its place and if anyone uses any program for what it is intended for, I have no objection, but trying to cram all programming into one language is pure horsefeathers. Here in the 11.0592 '51 community we are trying to do more with less and BASIC has no place on the '51, except for amateurs with no desire to become professional, whereas for a PC program running on a multigigahertz processor it may very well be the right choice.
