i have also done that with a small difference.i need DS1232 to act as supervisor plus WD.but the WD causes problems when one is using monitor program based systems.the serial comm download can go on for several seconds.what i do is connect strobe of DS1232 to output of a 2:1 mux.the mux selct line is controlled by a port pin which defaults to '1' on power on reset.this selects the ALE which is one of the mux inputs.when my code actually takes over from monitor i toggle this port pin and enable second input of mux that is derived from output of address decoder.strobe is acieved by writing to this specific address.
