Hi Elton,
The PIC 12C50X would be your best choice. Single unit quantity is less than $0.48/ea. There is no 8051 type that can even come close. This little baby has a big punch. Since the 12C50X is a one time programmable device you will need to develop your software on something that can be reprogrammed. That problem has been solved. Check out this web site for a PIC 16F84/12C509 adapter board.
