My conclusion is that the MODEM is not receiving DTR signal. I also find that the TERMINAL READY Led of the MODEM does not glow when I establish the connection using my own cable.

How can we activate DTR signal without using extra wire? Can we connect DTR to the ground pin?

P.S.: I want to use only 3 wires because I want to minimize the port pins for serial communication.
