#63769 - RE: Postscript dongle Responding to: ???'s previous message |
There is a huge reason that the POSTSCRIPT printers cost more. The formatter boards in these things are rather intense processor boards. It is unlikely that you would ever get an 8052 to do the job the lowest level reason being the amount of formatted image memory required.
I also believe that your idea may have had a lot more attractivness about 10 or 12 years ago when many more DOS machines were still in use. These days the graphics operating systems in main stream use do not care if your printer is postscript compatible or not. The printer driver takes care of using the feature if it is present, otherwise it makes do without it!!! Also note that the last time I installed Win2K on a machine I noticed that the "Add a Printer" driver list was HUGE and seems to support even many printers that are probably not in much use any more. So .. while the idea may be technically useful .. does it have a real market? Michael Karas |
