yes using a shift register is ok but programmming becomes slightly complicated and confusing ,but thanks for the reply ill try the same .

however these are my specifications

one frount panel with 14keys , 2*8 leds and a lcd which has already been used in 4 bit mode(4 data 1 rs ,1 e ,1r/w,1 back light)

14+8+8=30 i/o s

one adc 0808 which has 8 data pins , 3 address pins ,1 ale,1 o/p enable and 1 start.
