#6688 - RE: Many avenue, one ring road !!! |
... Continue to my previous message (excuse me for typos there).
I spent some money in buying books and demo boards in learning. That money helped the authers and other self-employeed entrepreneurs in sustaining their life. Would they suffer if we make everything free here? Lunix is up against giants like Microsoft, Sun Micro, IBM and HP. And we might be against some poor fellow engineers like you and me. Furthermore if Atmel, Philips and other 8051 giants are releasing all the solutions and application notes for free. Do we need to duplicate their efforts? I like your idea, Rauf. If we really want to proceed, I would suggest: 1. Phase the topics into different levels, e.g., basic, intermediate, and advanced. 2. HW and PCB can be designed in modules. Similar to PC/104 approach, use a mother board as the base (with CPU, RAM, ROM sockets, voltage regulator, ISP circuit and etc.), and all the other function boards can be stacked up on the mother board through bus connectors. It will be a big effort (and an artistic work) even in specifying our own interface standards. 3. SW goes with HW in different modules. Language will be in both assembly and C. SW must come with free assembler and C compiler (SDCC). 4. Documentation in describing how things work and how to make them work. 5. Pack different modules in separate boxes and sell them to beginners, school labs, and other interested parties. The thing is, this can become a big business (and wipe out all the little guys who are selling something else). Then the problem is, where the profit in selling the HW should go to? Should we incorporate ourselves? Regards, Oliver |
