If you are still there, and listening...
I HIGHLY reccomend the c programming language, I have seen the book somewhere floating along for free online. With a length of ~200 pages it is a light read compared to some other books. On a second though, the C Programming Language is actually built for advanced programmers, but is a good reference to any programmer.
