Obviously we mean different things when talking about glue logic,i always take it to mean a few gates for memory addressing which is where the gal comes in,anything more complex i use a cpld.
I dont know any reason to use a cpld in place of a few logic gates and then say its not overkill.My manager would sack me on the spot if i used a CPLD costing $5 where i could use a gal costing a tenth of that price.
