I don't believe it matters that they have no constitution. We do, and it doesn't preserve our freedoms. Every (not just any, but every) bureaucracy will always amass as much power as it can. In the case of our government that effort is limited by the Constitution, so the Constitution has to be made irrelevant. It would be no different in Britain without one than here with. In every case, personal liberty will always be diminished to the maximum extent that individuals will allow.
Here's something to ponder when you're feeling patriotic. I asked of Muslims as I ask of Christians, "What do you believe and why do you believe it?" Now I ask of you when you're feeling patriotic, "What is it that you support, and why do you support it?" Do you love this land because you've deliberated the founding documents and you believe they got it right? Maybe you think something should be changed? If so, what and why? Or are you a patriotic American (change to Briton or Indian or Pakistani or Russian or Greek or ... as suitable) for no good reason save that you were born here? |
