What did work for you in circuit maker 2000?

eagle has a little cumbersome interface, but as soon you get the feeling of it, you can do things very easily.

limitations of the freeware (can't be used for commercial purposes) version: board size 100mm x 80mm, only two layers, one schematic sheet.

if you can live with these limitations I would take the time to try.
