An 8052 "programming" class CANNOT fail to take a very long and hard look at the HARDWARE of the processor and its internal architecture. One cannot program any processor at very low level with out good insight into hardware.

If hardware, and external interfacing IS mentioned, make sure that you are not taught about obsolete technologies like the 82XX series of expansion chips made by Intel.
