Surely there is enough expertise in this group to come up with a "modern" development board at a more reasonable price. But in reality, in comparison with some other school costs, it isn't that bad.

I've got two kids in college, and believe me that this is nothing. It's pretty common for a professor to require a student to buy a text book costing twice the price of this development board.

Even in high school my kids were required to buy calculators that cost more than this.
