#75906 - RE: WEOT: Capacitor packaging Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I have not had any failure either unless I accidently put them with connections reversed. But all the time I have been reading that the least reliable of all the capacitors are the electroytic, that 1000hr @ 85C is a wee bit scary. And they will heat up a little bit no matter what logically high value you choose, so why insulate? Possibily is that the reason why Epcos/ Siemens sells one of it plastic capacitors with nearly no insulation?
Yes it is also true that usually in the equipment where these caps are too close to the power devices they will fail faster due to higher temperature. So artwork and mechanical design is important. Which is what makes me wonder if using the PCB as heatsink as recommended for DPAK and other such power devices is a good idea. |
