I am currently developing a product that will have some I/O and a 2 Card Readers to control access to a door. The product will communicate with a windows master station over RS-485. ie simple USB to RS485 converter.

The Sales department thinks we should develop PCI card solution to supply RS-485 and work as the first door controller on the network.

I am trying to convince sales department that PCI card solution is not an option. Any good point you can recommend.

1. PC's Techinology is rapidly changing cause the card to be out dated in a couple years.
2. PC's are more voruable to hardware failures, virus etc.
3. Cost.
4. Capiblitiy
5. OThers ????????????????/
