Many people are able to deply Sharp IR receivers. However, I did side by side performance comparisons between eqivalent Temic and Sharp IR receivres and the Temic parts won every contest!! So I decided long time ago to not look back, (one tends to stick with what works well). Later Vishay bought the whole Temic IR Reveiver product line. So if I recommend any product today it goes to Vishay. Of course any engineer jumping into doing IR transmission system design would do well to perform their own tests on the latest versions of the IR receivers. Vendors change, part families change, prices change, packaging changes etc etc. My favorite parts from Temic were the TSOP17xx parts. But note, at the latter Vishay link in my prior posting, that the TSOP17xx parts are now not recommended for new designs. Apparently Vishay designers and marketeers have decided that other product offerings are better parts or at least more fitting to the customer base that buys their parts.
