#83344 - Line numbers and editors
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Sure it would. But this is a '51, limited resources, remember? :-) And scrolling a screenful of characters via 9600 serial would be no fun (although there may be some support in the VTxx esc-set, I don't know it).

I believe there is scrolling support in VT-100 or VT-52. I can't remember. I remember full-screen editing on the old BBS's back in the 80's but I was using an Atari back then and we used ATASCII, not ASCII nor VT-52, etc. So perhaps that was an Atari character set feature.

Still, I'm pretty sure it could be done. I'm pretty darned sure you wouldn't have to rewrite the entire screen to insert a line, etc. I was considering writing a full-screen editor for an SBC monitor I'm in the process of writing but decided I'd leave that for later.

PS Whats the big deal with linenumbers ?

It just seems so obsolete. And having line numbers instead of function names would be hard for me to get used to after using function names for the last 15 years.

Craig Steiner
