#83692 - uPSD 3xxx not really suitable Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Strangely enough, I was pointed to these devices by a colleague yesterday, too.
While yes, some of these devices have 32kB RAM and the 33xx series has a fast 4clock core with prefetch etc.; to configure up the device is really not a simple task. We have used a PSD8xx in a project before together with a 8052, and it was not trivial at all to set it up working. As the uPSD is virtually the same as a standard '52+PSD setup, the task is not easier and really not too suitable for a hobby project. Nevertheless, I still consider them to be great parts and a good option for more complex projects (we have samples of uPSD3212 around but had no time yet to try them - in replacing the mentioned '52+PSD combination, sparing money on parts, board space, handling and programming). And it is possible to set part of the FLASH as code memory and part as data memory, which makes it a very similar to the stnadrd setup, needing virtually no modification of the original BASIC52 except the FLASH programming. And the FLASH is erased in big blocks so the "programming directly in FLASH" feature cannot be used. Therefore I decided not to go for these devices. Jan Waclawek |
