Are you sure it's a spike on the supply, rather than a dip in the Ground reference?
Most power supplies I know of (of course, he could have rolled his own) would IMMEDIATELY go into protect mode if such a spike appeared. Try - I know it against all logic - to put the scope on the - pin of the supply and see what happens.


The same did NOT appear on the PIC board!
Again, was the spike also present on the input to this board?
Can you post the regulator circuit used on this board?

He specifies that the PIC power supply was powered by a different 110V circuit than the solenoids.

Just a thought that popped up as an aside (off topic) how much copper do you think would be saved if the 110V countries converted to 220V?
