Erik: Whose design will work when the stepper motor burn out and is replaced with another brand?
Thomas: My feeling was that the stepper being wrongly corrected would end up in a blown L298 ( already did that once , by reversing the diodes ). How/who would the opto isolation protect ? not at all No opto-isolation will protect against improper installation. However, as the coils on the new stepper motor are most likely different a different EMI pattern could happen, and THERE the value of opto-isolation might show itself by preventing burps caused by noise. I have seen a unit that had worked for years burping constantly when a relay was replaced with an "identical" replacement. Erik |
