I looked in a data sheet for a Samsung clone of the HD44780 chip and noted this timing diagram. It is very clear that the signals RW, RS and CS are subject to a SETUP timing requirement BEFORE the rising edge of the E pulse. Then it is the falling edge of the E pulse that makes the controller chip latch in its data.
 The lesson here is that all that write embedded software need to also read data sheets AND use an oscilloscope!!! Michael Karas |
