it is not harder than C ...

But certainly more laborious!
This is why it is pointless to ask which is "better" without defining any criteria by which to judge it!

if you are stringing together subroutines they could just as well be in assembly as in C.

But if you are just "stringing together subroutines," you are hardly likely to be making super-lean, super-fast code!
