#93521 - How do you know it won't work.
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Michael, calm down. I have already stated my limitation, no more PCB space. This is not something that I can control. If I could have it, I would install 100 laptop there and network them using with TCPIP. Problems gone.l

Everyone wants to design a perfect system. One that follows rules, protocols, standards etc. This is often not possible given the time constraint.

I am looking for a solution which is fast, easy to implement without much hardware change. The thread would already have ended if I decide to make a 485 link.

Futhermore, repeaters need to be install after every 30 devices. This increase cost too.

As stated, why won't a transistor work? Seems logical to me. It will make the line tri-state, just like P0.x. This way, the "sleeping" slaves will not overload the "active transmitting" slave.

Let me put it in another way. I use Port1.0, put in base of NPN transistor. transistor(C) -- 10k -- 5V. (E) to gnd. I have 100 of these 8051 configured. I link all the (C) together. When one of the 8051 Port1.0 = 1, the output (C) will be low. Port1.0 =0, (C) will be high. Does it not behave in this way?
