#99044 - Loopback
Responding to: ???'s previous message

everything i send in over the hyperterminal should get transformed by the max232, send out and recived on the other pin, transformed back and send to com1. is this right?

Yes, that's exactly right. This is a very good test, as it exercises everything from the PC Application (Hypoterminal), through the Windoze drivers, the PC hardware (COM port), the cable(s), your target connectors, and MAX232.

when i try this i can type in some characters at the hyperterminal but something like out of 10 characters one ore two are return badly or not returned anyway.

So there's a fault some where in the PC Application (Hypoterminal), the Windoze drivers, the PC hardware (COM port), the cable(s), your target connectors, and/or the MAX232.
Now you just need to isolate precisely which one(s)!

You could either start with a loopback direct on the PC's COM port connector and work "away" from the PC a step at a time, or vice-versa

i tryed different baud rates (even the slowest at 110) , no parity and one and even 2 stopbits. no hardware handshaking

These shouldn't make any difference, as it's a purely hardware loopback from the PC's output to the PC's input - so there should be no possibility of incompatible settings!

(high baud rate could possibly have an effect if your cable specs and/or MAX232 were marginal...)
