the settings for the hyperterminal are set directly at the hyperterminal. i open the exe. new connection. set name of connection, set com1, set the baud stop and parity and connect. thants it. I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not, but just last week I ran into a problem where the problem was HyperTerminal. Or, rather, something to do with serial communication in 32-bit programs. Not sure. However, what I observed was that I would get garbage (or nothing) when trying to receive input in HyperTerminal or in a test application I wrote in VB6 (both 32-bit applications). However, it worked perfectly with the exact same settings under VB3 or with the TERMINAL.EXE program that came with Windows 3.11 (both 16-bit applications). This strange effect was under Windows 2000. The communication worked fine when connected to my Linux workstation. So I have no idea why that was the way it was and since I'm not really Microsoft-centric, I didn't have to care. But something strange was going on with Windows and serial communication there.
