Obviosly you are never going to stop the most determined hacker but using the dallas part is slightly less dodgy than trying to selectivly blow up output stages in my humble opinion.I know which solution I would go for.Also I am quite sure that Dallas have fixed whatever bug caused it fail since 1997 or whenever.
