The main so called intention of the EU RoHS directive is to 'protect the environment'. Pity the bureaucrats in Brussels have overlooked the fact that all viable lead-free solder alternatives have higher melting points than conventional Sn/Pb. This means that soldering requires more energy, which will undoubtedly lead to an increased use of fossil fuels and a corresponding increase in CO2 emissions.
So much for the environment :-( Rob. |
