You can find the original atmel cable on digikey(part number:AT89ISP-ND) for $25USD. Get the cable and a polarized header that matches the documentation on atmel's site(http://www.atmel.com/dyn/produ...l_id=2877). The PDF shows exactly how to wire a connector for the cable. There is also software for using the cable.

It may cost a few extra dollars to buy instead of making the cable, but it more than makes up the cost by saving time. Not to mention you know your setup actually works, unlike half the crap you'll find from google.
