Peter, the J1708 spec calls for detection based on priority of a "gap" of 4-7 Bit times, the method of doing it in the uC is beginning to jell, I may have to use a small external uC with J1708 as the only purpose in life in order to meet the timing criteria while meeting the timing criteria of my equipment at the same time. With J1708 being used in the American automobile industry, I was hoping for a "1708 UART" available somewhere.
