How come the Americans don't like CAN ? Not invented here syndrome ? Or is there a technical benefit to J1708 ?

Couldn't the Triscend E5 be configured to do what you want ? I don't know if the IP is supplied in editable form, but if there is a UART design in there it might be modifiable.
