#131272 - Overclocking Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I have no doubt that you will find that some samples of 12MHz parts run well at 18MHz, simply because they are "downlabeled" by the manufacturer to have stock of a given flavor, but that does not in any way mean that chips in the next shipment will. Many idiots (I use this word I know reluctantly, but here it fits) have posted "you can run part xxx faster than the datasheet states" Lots of people have lots of fun "overclocking" their PCs - ie, seeing how far they can exceed the PC's specified speed and still have it "work". You can read of their exploits on many web forums - and of all the weird things that start going wrong because of it! The bottom line is: if you want to spend hours chasing "weird" bugs, then go ahead and exceed the datasheet limits - but if you want it to work, and have the manufacturer honour the warranty if it doesn't, then stick to the datasheet limits. |
