If you have a noisy Vcc, and/or strong EMI that produces spikes in I/O pins, not only internal RAM can be corrupted, but also PC and other SFRs. Results are unpredictable. And all this can be the result of interrupting the coil relay current. At least, try connecting a diode over the coil :)
