That is most certainly nothing like the only reason!

Properly done, the "interface" and "implementation" split can bring many advantages:

  • Easier design;
  • Easier development - especially when >1 developer;
  • Easier maintenance;
  • Easier re-use.

    Of course, done badly it (like anything else) can leave you with an almighty mess!
