#136014 - Expensive jumpers?!
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Mike Stegmaier said:
... I want to attempt to do the whole thing on a single sided board with maybe 2 jumpers maximum. The more extra 74HC245's I add, the bigger the chances I have of being able to make it single sided.

So what is it that makes adding extra, redundant chips preferable to using jumpers?!

Adding extra, redundant chips:
  • Requires extra tracking for the power & enables;
  • Requires extra decoupling;
  • Adds propagation delays;
  • Takes more space;
  • Costs more;
  • Consumes more power;
    etc, etc...?
