My point to Erik was that there should be no physical damage to the part as a result of 100C operation.
if the "Absolute maximum ratings" state 85C how do you know I am sure that, with your knowledge of silicon, you can state the above with some authority but with certainty? Does the ability to withstand temperature not depend greatly on the design? I hope that the "Absolute maximum ratings" are not so that one degree over max will destroy the chip, but you yourself state so extended temperature operation will definitely reduce the life of your product. which is exactly the point I was making.
