#144082 - options?

Note that there are also other vendors of FRAM devices,

I know of none.

Fujitsu is Ramtron's technology partner (Ramtron is fabless), so what they offer is exactly the same chip. Ramtron now manufactures also at TI, so maybe TI offers these, too, I don't know; but then they are still the same devices.
Hyunday (now Hynix) announced they will have FRAMs a couple of years ago, but AFAIK this simply faded away.

and a number of other non-volatile technologies.

The only one comparable I know of, is the Freescale MRAM; but they are huge and I am not certain about their availability worldwide.

Note also that Ramtron have some non-volatile latches - you might be able to build a non-volatile counter from them...

Oh, this would be certainly too expensive. If you want silly ideas, get a bunch of polarized latching relays and build a nice clicky nonvolatile counter... Or, use an electromechanical counter, and a camera with character recognition software for readout of the current value... :-) Or, Richard or somebody else from the older generation might come up with some fine core memory... ;-)

The superlowcost counterpart of the same would be a 74HC393 under the battery/supercap.

this is relatively complicated...            01/01/70 00:00
Why no reset during low power?            01/01/70 00:00
during active reset the oscillator is running...            01/01/70 00:00
      power back up?            01/01/70 00:00
         Oh, certainly...            01/01/70 00:00

my way of doing this...            01/01/70 00:00
Then jus a RAM chip would work            01/01/70 00:00
wouldn't it be easier and safer with serial EEPROM            01/01/70 00:00
                           Maybe            01/01/70 00:00
                              why not FRAM            01/01/70 00:00
