Simple graphics / special symbols like shown at the following link can be implemented in the CGRAM. Some applications may require more than the eight total available symbols that can be programmed into the display controller. As long as no more than eight are required at any one time it is possible to create displays that vary in time by loading different patterns into the CGRAM on the fly.
